Karon McDonald (47), mental health technician, Truckee Meadows Community College.  Karon expects to receive her associate’s degree in the fall of 2010.  Karon’s goal is to work with and advocate for the elderly.

Samantha Sharp (26), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  Samantha plans to receive her medical degree in 2009.  Samantha currently works as a Manager in the Student Outreach Clinic, a medical student-run clinic that services the homeless, uninsured and underinsured in the community.

Starchima Placide (19), nursing, Truckee Meadows Community College.  Starchima expects to receive her associate’s degree in the spring 2009 and plans to continue her education to become a nurse practitioner with a specialty in obstetrics.

Mary Doucette (46), educational psychology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Mary expects to receive her master’s degree in 2009.  Her goal is to an educator in a rural community.

 

*Kathleen J. Frazier (52), business management, Morrison University.  Kathleen plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in November 2007 and would like to start her own business.

 

Ramona Hull (24), atmospheric science, University of Nevada, Reno.  Ramona plans to receive her bachelor’s degree in 2010.  Ramona’s goal is to attain a job as a fire meteorologist, studying the effects of wild land fires on the atmosphere.

 

Mandy Roberts (27), nursing, Great Basin College, Elko.  Mandy is pursuing an associate’s degree. Her goal is to become a nurse practitioner and practice in the medically under-served areas of rural Nevada.

Hope Bauer (36), nursing, Great Basin College, Elko.  Hope plans to receive her associate’s degree in May 2008 and continue her education to attain her bachelor’s degree and work as a Nurse Practitioner in rural Nevada.

 

Theresa McLain (36), nursing, Western Nevada Community College.  Theresa is pursuing this degree to accomplish her dream of helping others. She expects to receive her associate’s degree in 2009.

 

Gayla Preece (46), nursing, Great Basin College, Elko.  Gayla intends to receive her associate’s degree in May 2008 and plans on continuing her education with a bachelor’s program.

 

Molly Smith (25), nursing, Great Basin College, Elko.  Molly expects to receive her associate’s degree in May 2008.  Molly’s goal is to continue her education to receive a bachelor’s degree.

 

Jillian Verby (25), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  Jillian anticipates receiving her medical degree in May of 2009.

Julie Balderson, (20), French/deaf studies, University of Nevada, Reno and Western Nevada Community College.  Julie will receive an associate’s degree in deaf studies and a bachelor’s degree in French.

*Reka Piroska Danko (25), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine. Reka anticipates receiving her medical degree in 2008 and has a strong desire to practice in Nevada.

 

*Chaithra Prasad (22), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine. Chaithra hopes to receive her medical degree in 2009.  Chaithra would like to work with a non-profit organization and provide medical care to underprivileged citizens of third-world countries.

*Amanda Backlund (24), physical therapy, University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Amanda plans to go to graduate school and become a doctor of physical therapy.

 

Lena LaFlame (18), veterinary medicine, University of Montana, Western.  Lena intends to receive her bachelor’s degree in biological and biomedical science and continue her education to receive her degree in veterinary medicine in 2013.

 

*Tammy Nguyen (21), nursing, University of Nevada, Reno.  Tammy plans on receiving her bachelor’s degree in 2008 and hopes to continue her education to receive her master’s degree as a physician’s assistant.

her medical degree in 2008.

 

*Christina Working (26), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  Christina plans to graduate in May 2009 and is interested in the field of infectious diseases.

 

*Kate Maureen Young (25), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine. Kate hopes to receive her medical degree in 2008 and is currently considering specializing in pediatrics.

*Lisa Madura (19), philosophy/political science, University of Nevada, Reno.  Lisa plans to receive a dual bachelor’s degree in 2010 and continue her education in pursuit of a Ph.D. in international relations.

 

*J. Morgan Richards (22), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  Julie plans to receive her medical degree in May 2010 and would like to practice pediatric medicine.

 

*Lucrecia Rodriguez (35), resource economics, University of Nevada, Reno. Lucrecia expects to receive her doctoral degree in the fall 2008. She will combine her economics degree with her chemical engineering background.

 

*Juanita Rojas (33), Spanish, University of Nevada, Reno.  Juanita plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in May 2009 and dreams of becoming a translator.

 

*Sarah Shepherd (21), environmental geology, University of Nevada, Reno.  After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in 2008, Sarah would like to pursue a career in environmental design to improve upon current environmental practices.

*Amanda Louise Casey (18), secondary education/history, University of Nevada, Reno.  Amanda plans to earn a teaching certificate in June 2010. She will then go on to teach high school history.

 

*Jamie Fine (20), biology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Jamie plans to receive her bachelor’s degree in 2009 and continue her education to receive a doctorate degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. 

 

*Windi Goodman (38), nursing, Truckee Meadows Community College. Windi plans to receive her associate’s degree in 2008 and would like to work in rural Nevada.

 

*Janie Pui Yi Ha (25), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  After obtaining her medical degree in 2011, Janie plans on furthering her training by working overseas in a humanitarian medicine mission.

 

*Dana Kusnir (29), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  After receiving her MD in May 2008, Dana would like to pursue a medical career focused on women’s health.

 

*Patricia Noval (35), chemistry, University of Nevada, Reno.  Patricia expects to receive her bachelor’s degree in 2008 and plans to become a professional researcher.

 

*Kerri Robbins (26), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  Kerri plans to receive her medical degree in May 2009.

 

*Anna Scarpa (19), biology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Anna plans to receive her bachelor’s degree in May 2010 followed by a PhD.  She then plans to teach college biology.

 

*Alyssa Christine Stixrud (21), speech pathology and audiology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Alyssa plans to receive her bachelor’s degree in the spring of 2008 and would like to continue her education to receive her master’s degree in speech pathology. Ultimately she would like to work with stroke survivors.

*Mindy Hsu (27), pharmacy/master of business administration, University of Southern Nevada.  Mindy intends to receive her doctor of pharmacy in 2009 with a master’s degree in business administration. 

 

Amanda Magrini (23), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  After receiving her medical degree in 2010, Amanda’s goal is to become a family physician in the Reno/Sparks.

 

*Samantha Jane O’Larey (20), speech pathology, University of Nevada, Reno. Samantha expects to graduate in the spring 2008 and will attend a speech pathology and audiology graduate program.

 

*Shannon Wolff (25), medicine, University of Nevada Medical School.  After completing her studies in May 2008, Shannon plans to focus on pursuing a pediatrics residency in an underserved community.

 

*C. Dove Zugarramurdi (60), biology research/pre-med, University of Nevada, Reno.  After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Dove plans to become a naturopathic physician and researcher.

*Bonnie White (66), psychology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Bonnie expects to receive her bachelor’s

degree in May 2008. Bonnie plans to obtain a job working with the juvenile courts serving at-risk children.

 

*Mara Zulauf (23), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  After receiving her medical degree in 2009 and completing her residency, Mara plans to practice in the field of neurology.

Anneka Hooft (21), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  After completing her medical degree Anneka plans to work as a physician and continue performing research to cure diseases.

 

Marjorie Sutherland (25), microbiology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Marjorie expects to receive her Ph.D in December 2007. After graduate school, Marjorie would like to work in the biotechnology industry developing cures and therapies for common illnesses.

*Summer Foster (24), optometry, Southern College of Optometry.  Summer plans to receive her doctor of optometry degree in May 2009 and hopes to work at the veteran’s hospital. She also dreams of traveling abroad to provide eye care to the underprivileged.

Amber Hall (18), biology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Amber intends to receive her bachelor’s degree in 2011.  After completing her studies, Amber plans to go into biological research.

 

Amy Stair (17), health ecology, University of Nevada, Reno.  Amy anticipates receiving her bachelor’s degree in the spring 2011 and plans to apply to dental school.

 

*Morgan Wilson (18), agriculture business, University of Nevada, Reno. Morgan plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in the spring 2010 and would like to start her own agriculture business.

*Aicha Hull (29), medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.  Aicha expects to receive her medical degree in May 2008 and plans to serve in the U.S. Army as part of an operational unit or forward surgical team.

 

*Janine Jenkins (44), marriage and family counseling, education, University of Nevada, Reno.  Janine plans to complete her doctorate degree in 2011 and ultimately wants to share her expertise with the community as an educator.

 

*Anna Krupp (25), secondary education, University of Nevada, Reno.  Anna plans to receive her master’s degree in the summer of 2008.  She would like to teach high school English in the Reno/Sparks area.

 

*Shawn Lady (33), education, University of Nevada, Reno.  After receiving her master’s degree in December 2008, Shawn plans to become a Nevada educator.

Katrina Kindall (19), psychology/women’s studies, University of Nevada, Reno.  After completing her bachelor’s degree in 2009, Katrina’s goal is to establish a women’s center that would provide medical services, individual counseling, group therapy and social networking.

 

Somersett Development Co., Ltd. - $1,000 Scholarship

Brooke York (18), journalism, University of Nevada, Reno.  After completing her studies in 2011, Brooke would like to utilize her passion for writing as a columnist for a Christian magazine.
