The Nevada Women’s Fund is dedicated to strengthening our community by empowering women to improve their lives and those of their families. We identify critical social needs and address those needs through educational initiatives and community grant making.

Dr. Laurie Helgoe

Read Story
Dr. Laurie Helgoe received a scholarship form NWF in 1986. Helgoe is an Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences at the Ross University School of Medicine. She also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the West Virginia University School of Medicine and was an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Social Sciences Division Chair at Davis & Elkins College. Helgoe authors a blog for PsychologyToday.com entitled Introvert Power: Food for the Inner Life. She connects with readers through the Introvert Power and Fragile Bully pages on Facebook.

Dr. Jessica Slatin

Dr. Jessica Slatin received Nevada Women’s Fund Scholarships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Dr. Jessican Slatin graduated in 2010 from Kansas State University where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to that she received her Bachelor of Science from University of Nevada, Reno. She makes a difference for homeless pets in Washoe County and works for Nevada Humane Society as the Veterinary Director.

Dr. Katie Dolan

Dr. Katie Dolan received Nevada Women’s Fund scholarships in 1993, is a Nevada native, graduating from Wooster High School. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis and then returned to Reno to complete her medical degree at the University of Nevada Reno, School of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Dolan found her passion in family medicine where she can interact with multiple generations and deal with a broad range of medical conditions. She completed residency at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, California and has practiced as a board-certified family physician in the Reno area since 1998.

Rebecca Judd

Rebecca Judd received a scholarship from Nevada Women’s Fund in 1986 is an actress-singer and has appeared on Broadway as Mdm. Giry in “THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA”. She has toured Internationally as Sarah Brown in “GUYS AND DOLLS”. Her regional credits include Maggie Jones in “42ND STREET” AND the Beggar Woman in “SWEENEY TODD”.

Karyn Jensen

Karyn Jensen received a Nevada Women’s Fund scholarship in 1986. She holds a Master of Science degree in Human Resources from Chapman University in Orange, CA. Currently, Karyn is the Professional Development Chair and past President for the Northern Nevada Human Resource Association (NNHRA) and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She was also an instructor, facilitator and program developer for University of Nevada, Reno Extended Studies beginning in 1991, and is currently pursuing training and speaking opportunities which incorporate her vast knowledge of human resources, leadership and more.

Dr. Sharon Malotte

Dr. Sharon Malotte received a Nevada Women’s Fund scholars in 1987. She is the first indigenous Nevadan to become a doctor and was named Miss Indian Nevada 1987. Dr. Malotte received her M.D. degree in 1989 from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, and completed residencies in internal medicine at the University of Nevada-Reno in 1991 and the University of San Francisco-Fresno in 1993. Dr. Malotte is currently an internist and emergency staff physician at the Battle Mountain General Hospital. She is also medical director of the Long Term Care Facility there. Since 2001 she has volunteered as the Lander County Health Officer.
