While we’re not able to gather for an in-person luncheon this year, we’re excited to continue the tradition as you hear from our student and keynote speaker virtually. Outdoor, Environment and Wildfire Reporter, Reno Gazette Journal
Amy Alonzo is the outdoor, environment, and wildfire reporter for the Reno Gazette Journal. She had more than two decades of experience at five newspapers across the country as a photographer, reporter, and editor before settling in as the outdoor reporter in Reno. She is a 20-year rock climber who has climbed hundreds of routes in Yosemite National Park and the Sierra, as well as a long-distance runner. During the pandemic, she completed four long-distance trail runs, including running across two-thirds of Yosemite National Park.

Raised on a dairy farm, Diane not only embodies the work ethic and values of small-town America, she is committed to supporting the rural lifestyle through her leadership of the Home At Last™ homeownership programs for NRHA. Diane is a Woman of Achievement for her big brain, even bigger heart, and commitment to getting thousands of Nevadans home, despite the extraordinary circumstances of 2020! Her unwavering dedication has pushed NRHA to new heights since she joined the agency in 2015.
Sr. Contracts Manager, Sierra Nevada Corporation
Nicky is a sr. contracts manager at Sierra Nevada Corporation, where she manages multi-million dollar contracts for the U.S. Department of Defense and commercial businesses. She is from Anchorage, Alaska and moved to Reno in 2002 to work for the Reno Transportation Rail Access Corridor Project (ReTRAC), and later joined SNC in 2006. Nicky has an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and is an active member of Women in Aerospace and the National Contract Management Association.
Director, Business Process Services, Microsoft
Kim is responsible for multiple high-priority projects, from overseeing revenue processing globally, to digital transformation for systems and tools used to process customer licensing deals. She provides leadership by utilizing the “Model, Coach, Care” approach for people management. Kim’s active community work includes the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Dress for Success, NEDA, and Junior Achievement. Kim and her family are enthusiastic boaters and skiers and love Northern Nevada.
Professor Emerita of Foreign Languages, Truckee Meadows Community College
Dianne’s love of languages began early, enjoying French records her father brought home and being immersed in the language sitting in the back of a classroom at an Alliance Française school in Ethiopia. Dianne turned her passion for language into a career becoming a Professor of Foreign Languages, teaching at TMCC for 29 years. During that time, Dianne established the Distinguished Speaker Series bringing speakers from around the world to the College, enriching the lives of students and community.
Operations Manager, Western Surgical Group
Ashley is from Bishop, California. As a ranch girl, she showed horses, rodeoed and participated in 4-H. She was Girl Scout Leader, coached youth softball league and high school cheerleading. She joined WSG 23 years ago starting at the front desk then becoming a surgery scheduler. She also trained as a medical assistant leading to an electronic health record specialist and recently became operations manager! She is married and has two daughters.

Irene has been with KTVN 2 NEWS for thirteen years as a Senior Account Executive. She has over twenty five years of Television and Radio experience in Nevada and has a work ethic second to none. Irene is always thinking of others first and enjoys sharing the fruits of her labor from her incredible vegetable garden. She has two grown daughters that have blessed her with two beautiful grand daughters: Hailee and Grace who call her “Gigi”.
Museum Shop Manager and Buyer, Nevada Museum of Art
Valerie is a visionary retail curator and oversees a uniquely successful business that contributes to the Museum’s fiscal health. She moved to Reno in 1978 and attended Wooster High School and later, UNLV, UCLA and Cal State Northridge on a music scholarship where she was a concert-level flutist. She has had careers in talent management, media and advertising sales, and formerly owned Blue Plate Restaurant and Babboo children’s clothing store in Reno.

Doris is being honored for her exceptional communication skills, technology expertise, and organizational support for the AAUW Reno Branch, Nevada State AAUW, Nevada Women’s Lobby, and Nevada Coalition for Women’s Equity. She has contributed to numerous meetings, projects, conferences, and Women’s Lobby events. Whether working in the foreground as a board member or in the background as an enthusiastic participant, Doris is always there making her skills available. She is 100% committed to our goal of equity for women.

Medical Director, Renown Health
An outstanding physician leader, Dr. Elliott is the first female medical director to serve within the clinical lab at Renown Health. Her many years of experience practicing pathology also prepared her for this unpresented year, as she led the process to create a Molecular Laboratory at Renown Health to become an independent state lab for COVID testing.
Chief Human Resources Officer, Washoe County School District
Emily leads HR operations for a workforce of more than 9,000 WCSD employees. Her heroic efforts to recruit and retain educators, bus drivers, special education assistants, nutrition service workers, custodians, and more have kept WCSD fully operational in the midst of a global pandemic. She leads with compassion and innovation and has delivered decreases in the number of first-day-of-school teacher vacancies, implemented an alternative certification program, and established dual credit opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in education.
Group Manager, Lumos & Associates, Inc.
Michelle is a mentor and leader within Lumos & Associates, tackling complicated projects due to her well known project management abilities. Michelle volunteers her time to her Virginia City community as a board member of Community Chest, where she has helped raise donations for construction of the Community Resource Center. A loving and dedicated Mom to Aiden and Kiana, she loves sharing all that Nevada has to offer with her kids.

Velinda is a supplier diversity manager at Sierra Nevada Corporation. She joined SNC in 1991 as a buyer after working in supply chain management for 15 years in Los Angeles. In 2009 Velinda was tasked with developing a small business program, and now maintains a successful Supplier Diversity Program. She continues to be a strong proponent of supplier diversity and small business as a certified professional in supply management, certified purchasing manager and certified professional in supplier diversity.
Fiscal Compliance Officer, Washoe County District Attorney's Office
Joining the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office in 2005 as their Fiscal Officer, Vicky contributes to the success of the office, impressively managing her many duties while enthusiastically supporting office outreach, internal events, chairing the Washoe County Leadership Events Committee, and assisting with the Impact Awards. Supporting her community, Vicky has coordinated a Take Back the Night Rally, recognized as a Reno Dioceses Volunteer of the Year, and sits on the board of A.V.A. Ballet Theatre; all with a smile.
Executive Director, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, UNR
Kristen has been OLLI UNR’s executive director for 2.5 years. She has encouraged, guided, and helped us through the pandemic with kindness, efficiency, and humor. She sees the good in everyone and responds to their strengths, especially with staff members whom she supervises. Kristen has been an advocate for members, a teacher to volunteers and a strong leader who works collaboratively with UNR and members as we adapt to changes. She always has a smile and a positive word.

Stephanie Lepori is Chief Administrative and Accounting Officer of Caesars Entertainment, Inc. Her leadership and financial management skills played a significant role in the growth initiatives of Eldorado Resorts, and acquisition of Caesars Entertainment in 2020.
She has a passion for her community and has served on a number of charitable boards including the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and Renown Health’s Compliance / Audit Committee. She earned a B.S. Degree in Accounting with honors from the USC and is a member of the Nevada Society of CPA’s.

Opening the first Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill in 1994, Jo Lown thought it would just be a small Mom and Pop restaurant. Twenty-seven years and 11 locations later, Jo has left her mark on the Northern Nevada community permanently. Nurturing her desire to provide sports fans a friendly neighborhood atmosphere that they can bring their whole family to, she has spent the last 27 years fostering the pillars of community, family and of course – being home to the best wings in town.
Manager of Purchasing, Reno Tahoe Airport Authority
As the Manager of Purchasing and Materials Management for the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA), Holly manages centralized purchasing, contracting and warehousing functions for the organization and is currently project manager for a year-long implementation of a new financial system. She is a brilliant example of a “cultural champion,” serving on an internal communications committee and participating in leadership and development programs whenever she can. She brings her passion for excellence and outstanding customer service to work with her every day.

Whitney was born and raised in Utah, moving to Reno after high school. She joined Western Surgical Group after high school where she started in medical records and advanced to surgery scheduler. She loves working for our patients. She often goes out of her way after hours and on weekends to ensure patients get what they deserve…the best surgical care in our community during this very stressful and unsure time. She has been married for 13 years and has a son.

Kara embodys the Women of Achievement mantra through her accomplishments and contributions in the community. Her unique way of mentoring and inspiring her team includes passion, humility, and grace. Kara’s passion for mentorship shines brightest in her work with high school and college students. She provides students with internships and development opportunities through partnerships. Most recently, Kara has a board position with the UNR Community Health Board to help streamline more of the relationship Renown has with students in our community!

Karen Massey’s stellar career began at 15, as a candy-striper. She received her B.S. at UNR and a Master of Health Care Administration at USC. Medical Staff Services Management led to her 20+ year position as Executive Director for Northern Nevada Emergency Physicians. As MGMA’s state legislative liaison on Hopes Clinic Board, Karen also devotes countless hours of service to Northern Nevada, this community, her husband and three sons proudly serving in the armed services.

As branch manager of Nevada State Bank’s Lovelock and Winnemucca branches, Melissa McIntee performs double duty, regularly traveling the 72 miles between both locations to manage her teams and assist clients. Melissa has developed both her teams to perform consistently, and she works tirelessly to ensure fair and equitable treatment. In addition, Melissa remains active in her family life and community. She regularly helps with her children’s activities, and she recently joined Pershing County’s Financial Advisory Board.

Melinda Mendoza, CHA’s governing board president, began her career as a registered nurse in AZ. In 1993, she earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona. Her education led her to risk management and compliance initially in Arizona. Now she serves as Vice President and Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer for Renown Health. Her passion is health for all. Regarding CHA, she says, “The mission is completely in line with my philosophy and why I entered into health care.”
Forward Planner/Development Manager, Ryder Homes
Bobbie is an invaluable member of the Ryder team; she is a mother, a community leader and volunteer. She joined Ryder in 2012 and is responsible for the forward planning, entitlement and land development for Ryder Home’s operations in Northern Nevada. Previously, Bobbie provided land development management, entitlement processing, and project management for several national and local builders during her development career spanning more than 17 years. Bobbie is a hardworking, strong, kind, exceptional woman excelling in her industry.
Executive Director, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow
Erica is the executive director of Truckee Meadows Tomorrow—an organization committed to providing quality of life data to foster positive change in Nevada. She believes that data drives progress and social change, and that trustworthy data must be accessible to everyone. She also owns a consulting and digital marketing agency, PIVOT Creative and Consulting, and is the founder and co-owner of JoyBoost (a lifestyle brand bringing more joy to our lives) and host of the “Embrace Yourself” podcast.
Community Relations Manager, NV Energy
Katie is the Community Relations Manager for NV Energy where she leads philanthropic initiatives in northern Nevada for the NV Foundation, corporate sponsorships, volunteering opportunities, employee giving and community partnerships. She is passionate about connecting NV Energy to community programs that positively impact northern Nevada through education and youth development; environment; community enhancement; safety and wellness; and arts and culture. In 2020, NV Energy, the NV Energy Foundation and its employees contributed $4.9 million statewide.

Natalie has a true passion for learning. She currently holds a Doctor of Nursing, an MBA and executive nurse certification. Her participation in various community organizations over the years shows her dedication to women and children in our community. Natalie is a member of AWHON and is our state’s representative for political affairs. Natalie is a true role model. Her dedication to her own education has shown her passion for advancing professionally, while raising three daughters on her own.
Emergency Preparedness and Safety Program Manager, Renown Health
During the pandemic Tammy served as the critical Liasion & Safety Officer for our HICS team. She is driven and passionate about the safety of our staff. She wants to make sure ALL employees go home to their families safe each day. Tammy gives her all every day and enjoys giving back to her community. She is a trained EMT, is active in Washoe County Sheriff Office’s CERT and volunteers at the Covid-19 vaccine drive-through at the Livestock Events Center.

Dominique has had more than 13 years of experience in Advertising and Public Relations ranging from digital, newspapers, magazines, and television. Most of her career was spent in Los Angeles, earning several awards along the way. Dominique graduated from the UNR Reynold’s School of Journalism in 2008. When she is not playing in the media world, she can be found with her 4-year-old son, watching him play hockey and soccer or you can find them together kayaking, at the beach, or enjoying the outdoors with their 2 full-of-energy Labrador puppies.

Karla Pambogo has over 20 years of healthcare leadership experience leading her to her current position within Northern Nevada Medical Group. As the market director, Karla oversees the Group’s 50 and growing providers and clinics across the region. In addition, she leads Northern Nevada Medical Center’s hospitalist provider group, which involves developing patient care initiatives that focus on quality and safety. Karla earned an MBA in Healthcare Administration/Management from Western Governor’s University.
Loan Coordinator, Northpointe Bank
Kumud lives in Sparks, Nevada and is blessed with two wonderful boys, 18 and 14. She participates in backpack drives and school beautification projects with Hope Worldwide, the Adopt-A-Family program through the Children’s Cabinet and providies meals to the homeless. Her community work is inspired by her spiritual guru’s organization, SSSIO. “I would not be able to accomplish these projects without the help of my family, friends, prayer group and co-workers and I’m grateful for their support.”

As a certified nurse midwife/women’s health nurse practitioner, Mary genuinely cares for women through menopause, guiding them through all of their gynecological needs in a holistic, compassionate manner. She is an expert in managing contraception, infertility, bio-identical hormones, sexual health, MonaLisa Touch Laser, and Well Woman’s care. Mary’s career has been devoted to the empowerment of women and their health throughout their life span, and My Women’s Center is so very lucky to have her!

Serving in a variety of critical roles, Becky has been with Nevada State Bank since 2011! As a strong supporter of community, Becky also serves as the President and Chair of the Communities In Schools Advisory Council for the Western Division State Board and as a representative for Communities In Schools Nevada. Becky has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in management from California State University, Fullerton.
Trustee, Community Foundation of Northern Nevada
Bonnie, the proud granddaughter of the inventor and manufacturer of the Duraflex springboard, is employed with Duraflex International and serves on the Community Foundation for the Northern Nevada Board of Trustees. Bonnie also brings her experience in nursing and service as a caregiver to the Community Foundation Caregivers Support Initiative Steering Committee. Within the Committee, she helped to develop Washoe Caregivers Guidebook and works to reduce stress and isolation of family members serving as primary caregivers.

Cynthia Sandoval has been with KTVN 2 NEWS for nearly 5 years. As the Assignment Manager, Cynthia coordinates coverage of all of the news content you see while overseeing all the people who gather it. Cynthia has a very positive attitude and influence on the Newsroom. She always goes the extra mile to make the workplace feel more like home – such as remembering employees birthdays and recognizing other special occasions. KTVN is lucky to have Cynthia.

Linda has called Nevada home for 43 years. Her career began at MGM Grand in 1979. In 2003, she joined the Eldorado as Player Acquisition Director and currently is Executive Director of Games Marketing for THE ROW. Building strong relationships with guests, she has brought a unique enthusiasm for hosting top-notch events. Linda loves bike riding, oil painting and gardening. An avid bowler, she enjoys participating in leagues. Linda is passionate about animal welfare and donates to many preservation organizations.
EMS Operations Supervisor, REMSA Health
Stacie is a paramedic and an Emergency Medical Services Supervisor with REMSA. She has worked in the EMS industry for 35 years and began her career as an EMT-Basic. Stacie has held a variety of roles including Continuous Quality Improvement coordinator, overseeing all certifications for REMSA/Care Flight clinical providers, launching the Preceptor Program for EMTs and Paramedics and establishing the organization’s first electronic charting system. Stacie is a second-generation native Nevadan and a pioneer in the EMS industry.

Amy Shocket has employed her many talents to be a top REALTOR since 2003. She has engaged those talents to assist the many organizations she has served in a leadership position . Amy has served on the Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors, the Northern Nevada Multiple Listing Service, most recently as President, and now serves on the Board of the Nevada Women’s Fund. Stacey actively works to mitigate, communicate and recover from crises that affect Renown and our community. Stacey has fostered relationships with public health partners (national, state, county) and implemented a plan to communicate safety and prevention messaging regarding COVID19 to employees and stakeholders. Stacey is an advocate for at-risk children and does much in the community to promote betterment of children and animals. Stacey also promotes people in the Public Relations profession as President of PRSA for Sierra Nevada region.

With background in the biological sciences, archaeology, and anthropology, Sara has extensive experience with natural resource characterization and environmental permitting that have been conducted in a diverse range of industries throughout North America. As an accomplished permitting expert and community/government relations leader in Coeur Mining, Sara also serves as President of Women’s Mining Coalition; is on the Board for Coeur’s Political Action Committee; and is active in the Nevada Mining Association, serving as chair for the Cultural Resource Subcommittee.

Megan commenced her mining career as a Process Engineer at Newmont Mining Corporation in November 2002. She progressed in her 17-year career at Newmont as a Chief Metallurgist, Process Operation Superintendent, and Manager of Process Operations up to the formation of Nevada Gold Mines, a Barrick and Newmont Joint Venture. She holds a Bachelor Science, Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Nevada-Reno. Megan resides in Battle Mountain with her husband, Darrin Powers and kids, Kourtney and Kami Powers.
