At Nevada Women’s Fund, we start with a clear, measurable truth: When Women Rise, Nevada Rises. Not as a slogan, but as an economic reality.

Nevada’s economy is being held back by outdated beliefs that undervalue women’s contributions—especially in rural communities and across core industries like mining, manufacturing, and agriculture. The barrier isn’t just opportunity—it’s perception. For decades, Nevada has been defined by narratives of limitation, reinforced by near bottom rankings in education, workforce participation, and economic conditions. But those numbers don’t just describe where we are, they shape what people believe is possible. They influence where businesses invest, who gets hired, and who advances, often leaving women’s talent under recognized and underutilized.

This application is grounded in data from The Status & Achievement of Women in Nevada, a 2026 report commissioned by Nevada Women’s Fund and conducted by the Guinn Center for Policy Priorities—the first statewide report of its kind in more than two decades. View the report here:

The When Women Rise, Nevada Rises initiative treats narrative as economic infrastructure. By combining a statewide public information effort with industry-specific shifts in beliefs, and elevating women’s leadership—we are aligning perception with possibility. Because real economic growth doesn’t happen until the story changes, and when it does, everything else follows.
Why This Approach
Nevada receives well below the national average in foundation giving per capita, limiting investment in large-scale narrative or systems interventions. As a result, most efforts operate in silos.
This solution works upstream, treating narrative as economic infrastructure and embedding belief change within industry and employer systems. Rather than duplicating programs, it strengthens existing workforce investments.
